Anglesey -  19th & 20th  July 2008 - Rounds 6 & 7

Practice Friday 18th July

It was a wet morning for practice and we were out on wets.
The car seemed to be handling Ok in the wet and I was feeling ok with the way the car was going in the first session.
The second session and the car developed a misfire which was caused by the rain from earlier.
The sessions in the afternoon was spent trying to sort the under steer problem, trying different wing settings and ride heights but was still not right and unable to find the perfect setting.

Qualifying Saturday 19th

I went out on the circuit on tyres that had been used already from Brands Hatch and did a few laps to get some heat in. I was keeping a tab on my lap times from the pit board but because of the lack of facilities there we were unable to retrieve grid positions.
With a car that was still not handling right I only managed 8th fastest.

Race 1 Saturday PM

For the race we decided to make an adjustment to the rear wing and take away some down force to enable me to get some more straight line speed and also to balance the car away from the under steer.
On the green flag lap I weaved the car side to side to get some heat into the tyres and span the rear tyres to increase the temperature.
I positioned the car on the grid and waited for the lights to go on and then that was the time for full throttle and without blinking wait for the lights to go off.
I timed the start to near perfection as I made up 4 places on the first lap and was closing up on Joe Crook for 3rd place but as I turned left to start the second lap the back of the car slid away and spun me around 360 degrees coming to a rest on the grass.
The race was red flagged because my car was in a dangerous position.
Because it was on the first lap I was able to rejoin the grid in my original position.
The restart was not so good as I accelerated to go as soon as the lights came on instead ofwaiting for them to go off. I had to quickly stop but fractionally missed the lights going off and was in 8th going into the race.
After about 5 laps the race was red flagged and stopped again.
It was decided by the Clerk of the course that the race would have to be added to the end of Sunday's race due to the noise restrictions and no racing permitted after 6pm.

Race 2 Sunday AM

I started 8th on the grid again and made another good start and slotted into 5th place by the end of the first lap.
For the first part of the race I was able to keep my position but as the race went on I was really struggling with the cars handling and lost a couple of places dropping me to 7th .
John Gray caught me and past me dropping me to 8th.

Rerun of Race 1 Sunday PM

An Ok start in 8th and managed to get 7th on lap 1. Again for the rest of the race I was pushing hard to catch Mark Harrison for 6th but I dropped back away from him and then John Gray again caught and past me. This time I was unable to stay with him and it was a case of just getting into a rhythm and keeping my 8th place.
After lap 9 Chris Willie retired promoting me to 7th which is where I finally finished.
