Rockingham August 29th - August 30th 2010.
Aug 29th - Qualifying.
As I had not had the benefit of a test day at the circuit prior to the race weekend it was straight out to Qualifying. I had not raced at Rockingham for a few months so I had to fit relearning the track into the session alongside getting quick laps in for grid position for the races.
New tyres were fitted and after 7 quick laps I was second fastest and came in to have tyre pressures reset before going out again. At the end of the qualifying session I was third fastest with a .2 second separating myself and the car in second position.
Race 1
I had a good start and slotted into third and watched Alex and Chris fight over the lead hoping that they would trip each other up and allow me to get past but for once they were behaving themselves. The three of us opened up a 5 second lead until the flags came out to tell us the Pace car was out to regroup the race due to Nick Robinson going off quite heavily into the tyre wall. We followed the Pace car for approximately 7 laps whilst the debris was cleared and the race restarted.
At the restart the three of us were again trying to break away from the rest. I was pushing my car on the limit to stay with Alex and Chris then going through turn 4 the car under steered and I went off the track, spinning around and unfortunately the engine stalled. I was out of the race.
A lap later Alex also came off allowing Chris Needham to win the race.
Aug 30th - Race 2
I had another good start and went down the inside of Chris Needham to take second position. Chris Needham out braked himself trying to retake the position and ended up going off the track. I dropped back a bit which allowed Mark Harrison and Kat Impey to close the gap to 1 second of me. I put in some quick laps and extended the gap between Mark Harrison and myself, this also decreased the gap between Alex who was leading the race and myself. At this point I noticed that Mark Harrison was no longer behind me thus removing some pressure as it seemed that I had a secure second place. The lack of pressure prompted some driving errors and over 2 laps I lost 4 seconds. At the time I was also unaware that Chris Needham had made his way back up to third and was closing the gap on me.
With 2 laps to go Chris was on my tail and was trying to find a way past me. We were side by side going though turn 1 at 149 mph and Chris came up on my right hand side. Unfortunately my right mirror had dropped down and Chris was therefore coming up on my blindside. I managed to hold him off for another two corners and with half a lap to go he managed to squeeze past me to take second and I came in third.
