Silverstone - 12/13th April 2008 - Round 1

Racing turns into a family affair

Friday practice was held in changing conditions, so it was quite tricky to get a good
understanding of what the car needed set up wise.
We managed to do about 63 laps in total which was enough to put me up with the quick drivers.

Saturday morning Qualifying was held on a wet but drying track. It was sort of too wet for slicks
and too dry for wet tyres. We decided to wait in the pit lane for the first 5 minutes to see if the
other drivers could dry the track out a bit but it wasn't long before the qualifying seesion was
stopped due to a couple of cars going off on the slippery track.
Qualifying resumed and due to the time running out i had i to go. I was struggling with cold
tyres and a damp track but managed to qualify 7th for the first race and 5th for the second.

Saturday afternoon and the first race. The track was dry and i was starting on the 4th row of the
grid in 7th. The lights went out and i managed to get a fantastic start and got up to 5th on the first
lap chasing after Ray Rowan. I spent the the first half of the race chasing him down and then the
second part trying to find a way past him but unfortunately i was also trying to pass lapped
drivers as well which kept delaying my chances of passing him. The gaps kept opening and i kept
closing them down until the race was over.

The race finish order was 1st Edwin Jowsey
2nd Chris Needham
3rd Steve Clegg
4th Ray Rowan
5th Mark Terry

Sunday afternoon and the second race. The track again was dry but whilst we were waiting in the
pit lane i could see spots of rain falling which was a bit worrying as i was going out on slick tyres
but luckily it stopped as we were forming up on the grid.
Again when the lights went out i made another great start and was up to 3rd on the first lap and
right behind Chris Needham who was fighting for the lead with Edwin Jowsey.
Chris made a slight mistake going into Copse corner and i managed to get inside him and grab
2nd not realising at the time that Chris Needham's right front tyre was actually rubbing on my
right rear wheel whilst going into Beckets corner at 100mph. Half a lap later he got back past me
and i was back in 3rd and looking for another way of getting past him until the Pace Car was
called out due to 2 cars that had crashed and were left in a dangerous position.
When the Pace Car pulled off i stayed close to Needham's car but couldn't stop Steve Clegg's
car getting inside me at Copse corner which pushed me out wide and dropping me down to 5th.
I was now behind Ray Rowan's car as well until 5 laps later he spun off just in front of me whilst
going into Brooklands corner. I was now back up to 4th and closing up on Steve Clegg which is where
i finished at the end.

The race result was 1st Edwin Jowsey
2nd Chris Needham
3rd Steve Clegg
4th Mark Terry
5th Joe Crook
